The Hereford Arts & Crafts Society exhibition preview on 17th Jan. The event was organised by Jenny Williams and Sir Roy Strong opened proceedings.

After candidly capturing the general atmosphere of the viewing, I spent the rest of my allotted hour using the venue's architecture to get

 creative angles and reflections.

2013.12.08 Winter Wonder

This was very exciting.

Jackson Kingsley, who set up Cinematica Media, got me involved in a project he has been working on for the last 2 months with Leigh Haggerwood, a local Bath singer/ composer sensation.

Winter Wonder is a Victorian themed music video filmed in Englishcombe tithe barn amidst jollity and christmas cheer.

I went along to cover behind the scenes of filming. Needless to say I had great fun, jumping in-between everything going on, trying desperately not to be in shot, the enthusiasm of the whole cast and crew (mostly local, and many of whom volunteered) was rather infectious.

The strange thing was that whilst I recognised the tune, imagery etc in the music video - having listened to it on repeat during a day of filming - I did not know ANY of the lyrics. Some linguistic part of my brain shuts off during photographic concentration. It also causes me to poke my tongue out.

Anyhow, see my best pick of the day on flickr.

Here is the link to the youtube video if being ridiculously Christmassily happy is your thing:

2013.11.21 Basil Spence Crit

This is a delightful reminiscence. Sort of.

Last week it was 2 years to the day that I had my own trial by critique on the infamously stressful ‘Basil Spence’ group architects and engineers project when I was studying at Bath. Actually I was happy how we did, and I had a great team of guys - however I did not feel envious of the 4th years as I covered their crits as a photographer this time. I owe my recent re-incursion into the department to my head of year, the untiring Martin Gledhill. In fact I have gone so far with his and (my old personal tutor-) Daniel’s involvement to run some tutoring/ workshop sessions for the architect students. This is to teach them some photography skills to better capture and represent their ever-increasingly incredible model making skills as a key part of the imagery in their final hand-ins.

So it’s getting busy with TGP - Hurrah!

Fun and games aplenty. Lots coming up when I have a moment to write in the old diary.

2013.11.11 TEDxBRS 2013 Failure

Since joining the incredible team of volunteers behind TEDx Bristol last May, I ended up organising the stills team for the day and sourcing photographers.

The event in Colston Hall sold out and great fun was had by all. The topic of the talks was FAILURE.

I covered mainstage from the balcony (only the stalls were filled with the 1000 delegates so I had plenty of room to run about).

Vicky Symons

was on speaker portraits, Kenneth Shaw covered audience photos and second MainStage camera.

Jamie Dunbar

was front of house and backstage to get a feel of the atmosphere. A really great team of cameras - looking forward to working with them again. I also got Jackson Kingsley from

Cinematica

involved to do backstage filming.

Shooting all day for this sort of event was tremendous fun, there were one or two more hairy talks for me where I changed lens about 5 times - but aside from a definite need now to go and save for a Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS to handle low light better, and dream of a newer sensor than in the 7D, I feel it went great.

2013.09.15 Family Reunion by Mister Tom

I took a few candid snaps at the most recent family reunion, celebrating two 80th birthdays. The trouble with these events is that you spend a lot of time meeting all the lovely relations you didn't know you had, yet a disappointingly small amount of time actually getting to know them. Perhaps I should spend less time hiding behind my magic black box...

2013.08.07 TEDx BRS @Bocabar by Mister Tom

The second group meeting for the upcoming TEDx conference I am volounteer-photographing for. Taking photos of the team as usual.

I have been thinking more about covering the event and getting pretty excited about the day now (worried I will really need a 70-200 f2.8, *sigh*) - and although it's a long way off, I will be a genuine freelance photographer by then..

Poor and happy!

TEDx Bristol 2013 Meeting by Mister Tom

Several fails on this post.

Firstly a fail of chronology.. again - I am missing out a pile of stuff to get this out soon after the event.

Secondly a fail on getting to the meeting - sat nave sending me on a wild goose chase about Bristol in the camper.

However thats all OK because the topic for this year's TEDx Bristol Conference (November 11th in Colston Hall) is FAILURE.

This was the first meeting I could attend since I volunteered to be a part of the team in the position of documentary photographer for the event and providing image content as much as possible to support the lead up to the event.

This post covers the meeting which was at Bocabar in Bristol. To find out more about what will be a fantastic event go here: http://tedxbristol.com/

Tickets will be on sale soon.

Wedding - Julia & Barry by Mister Tom

Well good gracious me.

Completely forgot to post highlights of the now second wedding I've photographered for.

This degree is screwing with my sense of time, so I suppose it is fitting that nothing has been remotely chronological in my posting.

This wonderful event was Easter saturday 2012, the lovely bride and groom are Julia and Barry, and I was involved through Hannah Cordell, Julia's daughter and the blonde bridesmaid, who lives in the same studio as me.
